A young Wall Street trader gave an exceptional presentation on a trading strategy to several senior managers. After the presentation, the trader received many compliments from the audience. After most of his colleagues exited the room, the most senior partner at his firm approached him and said:
“That presentation was perfect, except for one thing.
You look like you bought your tie at Walmart.
Here is $200. Go to Brooks Brothers and buy yourself two quality ties.”
The senior partner then pulled from his pocket two hundred- dollar bills, handed them to the young trader, and left the room. The young trader was so embarrassed! Not only did he go straight to Brooks Brothers for two new ties, but he also bought two new shirts and four extra ties! He vowed never to look cheaply dressed again. A lesson learned the hard way, but at least one learned early in a career.
